Attention job seekers!! This candidate has the right idea!!

I am a big fan of going beyond the paper resume. Remember the Youtube post? Well, I just stumbled upon another candidate who really has the "WOW" factor when it comes to getting his brand out there. Meet Joshua Morgan, the job seeker. I contacted Josh in cosideration for opportunities with Rackspace Managed Hosting

Although, Josh is not interested at this time--(we really need to get a .Net Developer role open for this guy), this is why he will no doubt find the perfect position soon. Josh's website includes EVERYTHING a recruiter or hiring manager would want to know about a candidate. Check out Josh's FAQ page for a taste of what I'm talking about!

Candidates----take my advice, recruiters WANT to see more Joshua Morgan's.

Josh-best of luck, my friend, in finding your ideal role!

Hello---job applicant!!

This post is geared to those who are currently on the job hunt and might not be having much luck. Is your resume not getting the attention it deserves? Unfortunately, when folks apply to jobs that can often times fall into the "black hole"-where his/her resume does not even get looked at.

What you need to do is think outside the paper resume! Get creative! Make the recruiter/sourcer come to you!! Need ideas?? I'm glad you asked!

Almost everyone by now has heard of YouTube. Why not go the extra mile and make a video resume? Check out this applicant's resume video here ! I really believe that this is the next big thing. Paper resumes are so yesterday!

Another idea of getting your name out there---start blogging! Yes---recruiters (good recruiters, at least) read blogs!! Blog about your experience, the latest news in your industry and your pursuit of your next gig!

Lastly, I want to highlight that recruiters/sourcers also check online social communities such as Myspace and Facebook. So REMEMBER---if you are currently on the job market, advertise on your profile page and keep it CLEAN!!

For more tips shoot me an email me anytime!

What a week!!

I just got back from my Rookie Orientation from the AWESOME company I joined as a Recruiter III for Rackspace Managed Hosting. I have to admit (as well as brag)----this is by far the most amazing onboarding experience I have had with a company. The entire week was focused on learning about the company culture and the services it offers to its customers. The CEO and founders even spoke to our class (Kappa class 2007).....all highlighting the importance of keeping the employees happy. Happy employees=Fanatical customer service=$$$.

I am currently on the hunt for Windows Admins, Linux Admins and Network Security Admins. If you are interested, please email me at amanda.papp@rackspace.com

I'm so excited to start my new job with "awesome" company on Monday! I must admit--I'm pretty nervous! I'm 8 months, yes I said 8 months PREGO and I am starting a new job! CRAZY huh?? I am going to waddle in their with a positive attitude and soak up as much as I can about the company, culture and practices. I come back home on Friday night and will telecommute until this little bambino arrives---then we will plan to make the big move to San Antonio and I will start working on-site. Wish me luck!

phone screen experience....sour!!

OK---so I applied to a VERY reputable company in SA some time ago and did not hear from them until last week. I had already interviewed with "Awesome" company and received my verbal offer on Friday but thought, "what the heck....lets see what the other company has to say".

I had my impromptu phone screen this morning and I can honestly say this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had! I do screens day in and day out and the one thing I pride myself on is giving the candidates a great experience! The person that screened me today needs to go back to Screener/Sourcer 101.

First----she spoke at lightening speed and was definitely not prepared when she called me. Then--about 5 minutes into the screen she puts me on hold to answer another call. I sat there for over 10 minutes!!!!! RI-FREAKIN-DICULOUS!! When she finally came back on-I picked up where I left off having to repeat myself multiple times b/c I could tell she was typing and truly was not listening to what I was saying. I could have said "blah blah blah" and she probably wouldn't have noticed.

She then said--that I "might" have a 2nd phone interview this afternoon if the hiring manager accepts her screening notes! HA!! I would LOVE to read what those notes say!!!

It's not often that I am on the other end of the interview process but I will say that I have learned from both of these companies "Awesome" and "Hold for 10 minutes" which one provides the best candidate experience.

Interview experience update!!!

I had my face to face interview with the company I told you about earlier on September 17th. I met with a total of 10 different folks that lasted over 3 hours! I will say that although this was a lengthy process it was definitely a GREAT experience! I was asked some pretty tough questions but they were all very insightful questions!! The interview experience was overall very positive! I walked away thinking to myself, "Wow-I really want to work for this company".

Update::::: I received a verbal offer on Friday, September 21st. Nothing in writing yet--but I am STOKED!!!

Time to go shopping for that perfect outfit!!!

Testing, testing 123

Howdy folks!

Well-it has taken me long enough but I have finally returned to the blogger world! So much has happened since my last post on http://www.wirelessjobs.com/ I joined the Candidate Development team at Deloitte Consulting....had a great 8 month contract gig there and then I returned to my old stomping grounds at T-Mobile. I am doing a short contract gig with the Product Development Recruiting team until November when I will have baby #3...yes #3!!! We still haven' t picked a name so I'm totally up for suggestions!!

Not sure what is in the cards for me after November. Jason (the hubs) and I really want to move back to San Antonio where I was born and raised. My entire crazy family (God love them) is back there and we have realized that is where we want to raise the bambinos. So---if anyone in San Antonio needs a FLC Recruiter or Super Sourcer Extradornaire---look no further!

I LOVE the contract world but it is a lot like dating and it is time for me to settle down. I'm looking for a company that has a fun work enivornment, where I can partner with Hiring Managers and fellow recruiters on developing a top notch candidate pipeline. Benefts are a must--medical, dental, vision, etc....and the opportunity for growth is a necessity!

If anyone is interested---I'll gladly email you my resume!! :)

Cheers!

-Amanda
